It actually combines three technologies: classic Bluetooth with a speed of about 2.1 Mbps, a high-speed protocol (up to 24 Mbps) for transferring large files and economical BLE, which can significantly reduce energy consumption when working with small amounts of data. This combination appeared in version 4.0; and Bluetooth 4.2 added some improvements, such as optimizing collaboration with LTE modules (in order to avoid mutual interference), the ability to use a Bluetooth device in several roles at once (for example, broadcasting music to headphones and remotely controlling another gadget), as well as a number of improvements associated with the use of the Internet of Things.
