The laurels of the top winter studded tyre in the model range of the Finnish Nokian brand are deservedly given to the model with the Hakkapeliitta 9 index. However, the Nordic Seven is not so far behind its older brother in terms of performance and driving performance.

A special studding technology, along with a well-organized tread pattern, gives the tyre excellent grip when driving on icy surfaces, as well as on loose or rolled snow. The spikes are inserted into the tread blocks vertically and are held in this position by means of the so-called "bear claws". At the base of each of the claws, shock-absorbing Air Claw holes were made, aimed at softening the impact of the spikes on the roadway and reducing noise when moving.

The wide side of the studs is directed perpendicular to the direction of movement, which increases their contact with the road surface during acceleration and braking. When manoeuvring, the corner faces of the spikes are included in the work. In addition, the tread blocks are pierced with a great variety of sipes that increase responsiveness in handling on dry and snowy roads.

Wear control

Tyre wear can be monitored visually by relying on two types of indicators: a snowflake icon and a triple of numbers (8, 6 and 4). The disappearance of the first character signals the onset of a critical moment when the tyre becomes unsafe to operate, and the numbers indicate the current tread depth in millimetres. Nokian Nordman 7 is available in a variety of sizes from R13 to R18, and the “tasty” price tag of the tyre (as for a representative of the class of rubber class above average) increases its attractiveness in the eyes of potential buyers.
