The rug is a wonderful size, perfect for covering half the table so there's enough space for both the mouse and keyboard, with some room left over.
I really like that it doesn't have a pattern, I've somehow grown tired of bright mats. But you need to understand that on a dark mat, dirt, dust, and cat hair are much more visible (my cat loves to [censored] climb on the table and remind me of her existence with loud meowing).
The rug comes in a nice branded box, looks expensive and high-quality. It would look really cool as a gift for someone. The rug didn't have any specific smell. However, it was a bit warped, took about a week or two to straighten on the table. Inside the box, there was a gift from the company, a small rubber bracelet with the company's logo and name. A small thing, but nice.
The base is made of high-quality rubber (neoprene?), which over time doesn't track or stick to the table, leaving pieces of rubber on the desk (I've had the rug for several years). The stitching is very high-quality, the finishing is excellent, the thread density is at a high level, and there are no gaps.
The surface itself is made of very dense fabric. I have used both a laser mouse and an optical one on it, with no problems. The mouse glides very nicely on it.
