Model overview based on user reviews
The AL-KO Slice MH 2500 garden shredder is a reliable choice for shredding branches and leaves, featuring an electric motor with a power of 2500 W. Users appreciate its sharp, double-sided blades that allow continued use by flipping them when one side becomes dull. However, the blades tend to dull quickly, especially with small branches, and may require frequent replacement or sharpening. The shredder is easy to use without a plastic container, avoiding issues with a metal safety pin. Despite its simple and reliable design, some users experienced difficulty removing factory-installed blades, needing professional assistance. It effectively handles branches up to 40 mm in diameter, suitable for most garden needs, though it requires manual feeding as it doesn't pull in branches automatically. Overall, the AL-KO Slice MH 2500 is a good, safe option for garden maintenance, comparable to more powerful brands, but with some minor quirks.
Pros
Cons
This is my second shredder. The first was a Sadko 2500, which has the same design as this Al-Ko model, and I wasn't disappointed with it for over 10 years. But! The knives on this Al-Ko shredder are just terrible! After 2-3 minutes of shredding freshly cut branches up to 2 cm in diameter, the knives from the new out-of-the-box machine turned into SCRAP (photo)!!! Luckily, I kept the knives from the old shredder, swapped them in, and continued working. Construction away Blades. If I had known that I would need to change (find, order, pay extra for) NEW blades in a NEW shredder, I wouldn't have chosen this model. |
I bought it for shredding branches after pruning the garden (pear, apricot, plum, apple). It works like a charm. I shredded about 7-8 construction bags worth of chips, after which the blades got dull (the service center mentioned they get dull quickly due to very small branches), and it doesn't pull in the branches by itself, so you have to push them in. And it might spit out small branches (up to 5 mm). The blade is double-sided, meaning you can remove, flip it, and continue using it. I couldn't remove it as it was factory-installed very tightly and had to be taken off at the service center using a heat gun. Overall, the shredder is good; compared to powerful and branded ones like Bosch, there's not much difference, having similar "quirks" and features. I didn't even use the bag that came with it and immediately used an old plastic bowl (the bag was repurposed for other needs)). The 40 mm limit is enough to shred 80% of my trees' branches, the rest are cut with a saw and used as firewood. - Chops well with sharp blades - Double-sided blades, allowing work to continue if one side becomes dull (assuming the other side is sharpened) - The motor hardly heats up - The version without a plastic container is easier to use (no metal safety pin that locks the power, which often gets dirty) - the blades quickly dulled on small branches - there may be problems when removing the blades for the first time |
