This is success

The Ronin-S is DJI's first one-handed gimbal for DSLRs and mirrorless cameras and comes with several interesting features that make it stand out from the competition.

Works with cameras weighing up to 3.6 kg

Firstly, these are two platforms to accommodate more different camera models. Secondly, it has powerful motors that allow you to work with a weight of up to 3.6 kg, that is, it supports popular combinations of cameras and lenses, including the Canon 5D, Panasonic GH and Sony Alpha. Plus, the stabilization system compensates for the shortcomings of lenses with a large zoom, and the stabilization algorithm adapts to the work of optical stabilization of both the camera matrix and the lens. With such a solid build, the Ronin is regularly praised in reviews and held up as the standard when compared to other steadicams.

Great mobile app

All modes of the new Ronin-S can be configured through the DJI mobile app to automatically create complex camera movements — Panorama, Hyperlapse, Track and CamAnchor. The user can directly customize the SmoothTrack settings as well as the main camera settings. A rather convenient feature is the sports shooting mode, which allows you to shoot very dynamic scenes in excellent quality. In general, DJI has always been strong with its software and Ronin-S is no exception.

Not without flaws

However, Ronin-S is still not perfect. Firstly, 1.8 kg of weight (including gimbal and suspension) is a bit much for a one-handed stabilizer. Yes, this is necessary in order to be able to properly balance a heavy camera, but in other cases, the weight is too much. It is also rather strange that the battery is not removable and can only be charged through the Ronin itself. Well, the case here is not very convenient, in order to pack everything properly, the stabilizer needs to be completely disassembled.
