Semi-automatic with "spare" features

FUBAG IRMIG 160 SYN is a versatile equipment that can be used for all types of welding: manual, semi-automatic and argon-arc. But the MMA and TIG functions are, so to speak, auxiliary, and MIG / MAG is the main one. It is inconvenient to perform manual arc welding with this device, because it does not have a very high welding current (160 A), which does not allow the use of electrodes larger than the “troika”, and there are no electronic “assistants” for this mode. And argon-arc welding is hindered by the lack of an appropriate burner in the kit, which must be purchased separately.

Take control or just trust the machine

But in MIG / MAG mode, the device works fine. It allows you to use two wire sizes (0.8 mm and 1.0 mm) and two types of wire: regular (for welding with gas) and self-shielded (to work without a cylinder). The device has a simple adjustment of operating settings. Experienced welders will love the ability to adjust voltage and amperage, as well as the inductance, which allows you to change the “hardness” of the arc. And beginners and those who do not like to bother will be delighted with the synergistic mode. In this mode (which consists in the automatic control of current pulses), only the wire feed speed is regulated, and the device sets all other parameters itself according to the programme embedded in its electronic “brains”.

Apparatus for moderate loads

The reliability of the device is quite decent, as for household appliances. It has a removable sleeve (allowing you to change the hose and torch) and a quality wire feeder with metal rollers. But the thermal protection is not the most modern (class F insulation), so the manufacturer recommends working in the “cook four minutes, rest for six minutes” mode (the duty cycle should not exceed 40%). Users note that this device turns off even with small power surges, and because of this, it is not worth buying if you have problems with the quality of electricity and there is no decent stabilizer.
