Which is better: wet or dry heating element in a water heater?Learning the design features, pros and cons of "wet" and "dry" heating elements in water heaters

Detailed FAQ on storage water heatersWe answer the most common questions regarding the installation and operation of storage water heaters
I bought a water heater for my small apartment. The main reason for choosing this particular model is its narrow but tall design. There are many 80-liter boilers, but only this model has a width not exceeding 35 cm. And, of course, the Gorenje brand also influenced my purchase. I've encountered this brand's appliances several times, and it has almost always been a positive experience. A rare combination of significant volume and narrow width. The 80-liter volume is well-suited for installation in tight spaces. Compared to most competitors, it heats up faster. Water for a "quick shower" is ready to use in just over an hour, and reaching the maximum temperature of 75 degrees takes about two and a half hours. Well-built. Everything is fitted and tightened, nothing wobbles or has play, just as it should be. It's clear that this boiler is made in Europe, specifically in Slovenia. The warranty period is two years for the electrical part and five years for the tank's integrity. High electricity consumption. Although, of course, this depends more on the hot water usage rather than the water heater itself. In my case, with a family of 4, including a small child, the meter records about 370-400 kilowatt-hours per month, of which about 250-270 is the boiler's consumption. It turns out to be quite expensive. |
I needed a water heater for production, for the quality control department. To be more precise, in our chemical laboratory. New testing methods required a decent amount of hot water, and in order not to do balancing act with household kettles, and not to pull a gas pipe, it was decided to install a storage electric boiler. Moreover, due to cramped conditions (almost all the walls are occupied by equipment and fume hoods), I had to choose from “thin” models. The Gorenje TGR SUPER SLIM series with a width of 33 centimeters turned out to be the most suitable for these conditions. Quite a lot of hot water. In terms of fifty degrees (this temperature is needed according to the method), about 120-130 liters are obtained. So enough for testing and washing chemical dishes and hands. It’s good that they took the 80-liter model, with such a volume you don’t have to save. There is a special "eco" mode. In this case, the water will only heat up to 55 degrees. At this temperature, scale almost does not settle on the heating elements and the boiler heats up to 55, obviously faster than up to 70 degrees. But we do not use this mode, since then almost all hot water goes to testing. Holds water temperature well. During the night, only 5-6 degrees are lost. Looks strict and beautiful. From zero it heats water quite slowly. If you turn it on in the morning, then hot water will be only for dinner. Therefore, you have to heat a full tank in the evening, and in the morning just warm it up a little. |
