Epilator or photoepilator: how to choose and what are the differencesРассказываем, чем отличаются эпиляторы и фотоэпиляторы и что лучше для удаления волос в домашних условиях.
Video reviews

Expensive but effective

Philips claims this is its most effective IPL epilator, designed to fight unwanted hairs on different parts of the body. The pleasure is not cheap, but when compared with the cost of salon procedures, the savings are obvious. In addition, you can use the photoepilator in the comfort of your home at any time and take it with you on trips. The procedure is painless, and the device will last for many years: the lamp life is as much as 250K flashes, and this should last up to 20 years when used according to the instructions.

When working, an intense light pulse (Intense Pulsed Light or IPL) is used, which stimulates the transition of the hair follicle to the resting phase. As a result, hair growth slows down, and you enjoy smooth skin for a long time. According to the manufacturer, after three sessions, the hairs become up to 92% smaller, but everything, of course, is individual. Anyway, it works: according to reviews, the hair really gets smaller and it doesn't grow as fast. The device is suitable for most types of hair and skin, but still there are exceptions: with white, grey, light blond and red hair, as well as with dark skin, it is not effective. The device can be used by both women and men (but not for beard removal).

For the whole body

Philips Lumea Prestige BRI 956 helps you remove hair in different areas thanks to the four nozzles included in the kit, which follow the contours of the body. This is a curved armpit attachment; for processing large areas (for example, legs) with an enlarged window; for the bikini area with a transparent filter, and a facial attachment with a small, flat light window and an additional filter for gentle and precise use on the upper lip, chin and jawline.

In this case, you do not need to select the necessary settings yourself. The SmartSkin sensor automatically detects your skin tone and adjusts the intensity of the light treatment as needed. In addition, when you install a specific attachment, the device automatically selects a programme that is suitable for this area of skin. If desired, the intensity of the light pulse can be set independently - a total of 5 processing modes are available.

Fast and convenient

In addition to efficiency, the photoepilator is also easy to use. First of all, it has a built-in battery that provides autonomous operation: you can carry out the procedure in any place convenient for you, without being tied to a power outlet and without wires. However one charge for the whole body is hardly enough, only for the treatment of certain areas (usually the legs and armpits). This also affected the weight of the device: with prolonged use, it is felt in the hand. In addition, the flash itself is quite bright and can cause discomfort, so it is better not to look at it during operation. The Lumea branded app is also useful, which will remind you of the recommended schedule for procedures and give practical advice on skin treatment.
