Short description:

The developers of Sony Ericsson did not puzzle over the design of the SE W610i phone for a very long time - it is made in the traditional style of the Walkman series of phones and can hardly claim any originality. In terms of functionality, the W610i is often compared to the k550i from the same manufacturer. Even though the former is a purebred Walkman and the latter is a Cybershot, only small details distinguish them.

Technical features:
  • The case of the Sony Ericsson W610i phone is made of glossy plastic with matte inserts, finishing elements, etc. There are several colour options for the phone, but the most popular, `business card` is, of course, `black with orange`. In general, the orange colour is used in one way or another in almost all phones with the Walkman function.
  • Although in general the control of the phone is very convenient, the numeric keypad is not for everyone. i.e., some do not particularly like buttons that are too narrow. However, all this is very subjective, they are pressed without problems.
  • Screen at W610i, as usual for all `bricks`, only one. This is a 1.9-inch TFT with a resolution of 176x220 pixels and the ability to display 256+ thousand colours. For a powerful camera phone, it could be small, but for a Walkman it is just right. The brightness of the screen is quite sufficient to work in any conditions.
  • Internet support is very high quality - All the most common communication protocols are supported - GPRS, HSCSD and, of course, EDGE. To view pages, the NetFront browser is used - one of the most popular today. The e-mail client supports SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4 protocols.
  • The sound during playback and conversation is worthy of the Walkman brand. In any configuration - through the headset, through the built-in speaker or through a special portable stereo system, truly pure music is heard.
Camera:
  • The SE W610i does not use a particularly powerful camera, the maximum resolution is 1.92 megapixels. For a `musical` phone in the first place, this is more than enough. The pictures are quite clear (in decent conditions). However, for a family album, it is best to take pictures with a real camera.
  • The camera lens is practically not protected by anything - the plastic covering it is practically placed on the same level with the back panel of the camera, therefore, potentially, the lens of marks can be easily scratched.
  • The flash of the camera consists of two small LEDs, `complete` also has a small mirror.
  • The camera functionality of the W610i is almost identical to that of the k550i cameraphone. A wide variety of settings and shooting modes are available. However, for a matrix with such a resolution, this is even too much.
  • Video recording is possible in a single resolution - 176x144. Recording is in H.263 (3gp) format, mute is possible. Anyway, sound is recorded only in `mono` mode.
Media:
  • The model is equipped with Walkman Player 2.0, capable of playing a wide variety of media file formats - AAC, AAC+, MP3, MP4, M4A, 3GP, AMR WB, WAV, SP-MIDI, G-MIDI, RealAudio 8, WMA 8, etc. In the settings you can create playlists according to different principles, change the `shells` of the player, etc. There is a five-band equalizer with preset settings, if you wish, you can create settings yourself.
  • The phone player plays files of any bitrate, there is no limit on the number of songs - this also applies to playing songs from the M2 card.
  • Up to 20 stations can be stored in the radio settings. The receiver itself only works with a connected headset - it is used instead of an antenna. The radio also supports RDS - if the station works with this format, your player will theoretically report its name and the name of the song.
  • The Track ID and Disk2Phone functions are curious and useful. The first allows you to determine the name, artist and album of an unknown composition via the Internet. The second is designed more for PC and allows you to digitize CD-records to MP3.
  • Those who wish can also find a set that has already become almost standard - PhotoDJ, VideoDJ and MusicDJ programs. With the help of the first two, you can apply simple effects and edit photo and video content. MusicDJ allows you to create your own simple tunes.
  • The Music Mate programme is designed to teach the basics of musical notation and get to know guitar chords - although a useful option, it is very specific. However, in a `musical` phone, it will not be superfluous either.
