A decent VR headset if you don't pay full price. Quite groundbreaking for 2016, but outdated today, the PSVR still became a pretty good first VR device for me, considering I already had a PS4 and a certain library of games thanks to giveaways and a PS Plus subscription. I bought the headset second-hand for 8000 hryvnias, and it came with PS Move controllers and the game Blood and Truth. And that's how I recommend getting this headset. Never pay full price for it, because you can add a little more and get the Oculus Quest 2, which is much better. However, if you already have a PlayStation 4 or 5 (it works with it too, but you need a camera adapter) and you can find a used headset for a good price, I can recommend getting it at least for the exclusives. Astrobot: Rescue Mission, the aforementioned Blood and Truth, and Resident Evil 7 VR will make the expenses worth it emotionally in an instant! Exclusives Convenience in use Weight No screen door effect thanks to unique pixel breakup technology Large game library (about 500) ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE CONNECTION SCHEME VIA EXTERNAL PROCESSOR Light tracking through external camera Quite low resolution Game prices |
The VR headset from Sony is one of the few offerings for gaming consoles. The model provides Sony PlayStation 4 owners the opportunity to dive into the world of virtual reality, regardless of the console version (classic, Slim, or Pro).
Advanced Ergonomics
In terms of ergonomics, Sony PlayStation VR is at least half a step ahead of its closest competitors. Consider this: the weight of the headset rests on the head, not on the player's eyes, it's comfortable to use with glasses (depth adjustment is available within approximately 2.5 cm), and the VR headset attachment uses mechanics rather than straps. The headset adjusts to the head circumference with just half a turn of a special wheel on the band, complemented by a lock button for the chosen position.
Integrity of Perception
Each user eye is assigned a screen with a resolution of 960x1080 pixels, which amounts to the notorious Full HD in the holistic perception of the image. The display refresh rate is 90 Hz, although not all games support this figure. The issue is solved through software — in games with a maximum fps level of 60 fps, the console reprovides each second frame, doubling the frame rate to 120 fps.
Positioning in Space
The VR headset's position in space is determined by built-in accelerometers and gyroscopes (each on three axes), along with external devices that you would need to purchase out of pocket. Examples of such accessories include the PlayStation Camera and PlayStation Move motion controller. However, the model is equipped with speakers that simulate surround sound and a microphone.
Games Included
One of the shortcomings of the model is the wired connection method to the gaming console. Among other things, users complain about the expensive content. However, in this particular case, the headset comes with a VR Worlds bundle of five diverse games, which can slightly save you money when purchasing the new generation gadget with a strong focus on avid gamers.
