Once I noticed that something was missing on the window. Looked closer – where there used to be an outdoor temperature thermometer for years, there was just an empty spot. A small thing, but I was used to checking it every morning, so I decided to buy a new one. I got a regular mechanical option with a scale from -50 to +50. It attaches at four points, stays securely in place, doesn't wiggle, and isn't afraid of the wind. The readings are not taken through a liquid column but with the help of a large needle. Overall, it does its job fine, shows the temperature accurately. But there are some nuances. The paint that separates the negative and positive parts of the scale has partially faded from the sun over time. Also, the markings are very close together, and sometimes it's hard to tell if it's +2 or already +6, especially if your eyesight isn't perfect. As a simple outdoor thermometer – okay, it serves its function. But don't expect perfect readability from it. Four attachment points, arrow instead of liquid column. The temperature is shown with a pointer, and here's where a little issue came up. Initially, it seemed that the pointer version would be more convenient and clear, but in practice — not so much. The scale is curved, the markings are very small, everything is tight, and from the window, it's not always clear if it's plus two or plus five.
Overall, it does its job, but reading the measurements isn't very comfortable. After using it, I've got the feeling that a regular liquid thermometer would be simpler and clearer for everyday use.
