Model overview based on user reviews
The Sturm GM2317FL is a budget-friendly rotary engraver ideal for beginners or semi-professional use. It features a powerful 170-watt motor with a speed range of 8000 to 32000 rpm and includes a set of 120 nozzles, primarily grinding and polishing discs. The engraver is equipped with a speed controller and LED light for enhanced usability. Despite its advantages, users have noted issues with the flexible shaft, which heats up near the fastening and struggles to maintain consistent RPM, especially during prolonged use on materials like steel. The tool comes with a convenient carry bag, making it portable and easy to store. Overall, the Sturm GM2317FL is a solid choice for those looking to explore engraving without investing in high-end models, though it may not be suitable for precise or heavy-duty tasks.

Simple and inexpensive engraving machine

Network engraver Sturm GM2317FL is considered the leader among the "low-cost" models. It is cheap, but quite decent in quality, like the rest of the Sturm brand, so it is well suited for home workshop or semi-professional use.

The engraving machine is equipped with a very powerful 170-watt motor. However it is worth noting that the motor is large and shifted back, so holding the engraver with a “pencil” grip is not very convenient. There are seven fixed speed adjustment positions ranging from 8000 – 32000 rpm.

Nozzles and accessories included

The drill comes with a set of 120 Sturm branded nozzles. Most of them are interchangeable grinding and polishing discs. Thanks to the spindle lock, tooling can be changed quickly and easily (a small wrench is included to tighten the spindle). The design of the device and the presence of several collets of different diameters allow the use of nozzles of three sizes: 1.6, 2.4 and 3.2 mm.

The engraver has a built-in LED backlight, which makes it easier to work in low light conditions. There is also a flexible shaft in the tool bag, which is necessary for performing small tasks in hard-to-reach places. But users note that it is not of very high quality (beats and vibrations are felt during rotation), so this “extension cable” is not the best for precise work.

Engraver for economical beginners

The Sturm GM2317FL drill is a great gift for those who are taking their first steps in engraving. If you want to "taste" engraving machines without overpaying for products of famous brands, then this model will be the best choice. But, of course, there are also cheaper engravers, like the Sturm GM2314F — it has simpler characteristics and the equipment is not so rich.
