Drill or mixer? Both

Low-speed (500 rpm) drill Sturm ID20165M is not a tool for all occasions. This is a specialized device, "sharpened" for tasks that require high torque. Thanks to a very powerful (1650 W) motor and reduction gear, it easily and confidently rotates a stirrer immersed in a bucket of dense mortar, or a large screw drill in wood. The power reserve of the engine is enough to drill deep holes in wood with a diameter of up to 80 mm.

The secret of such characteristics lies in the design of the spindle. The cartridge is "planted" on a Morse taper (this solution is more typical for a professional tool, and it is quite unexpected to find it in not at all expensive Sturm drills). The Morse taper arbor allows the use of industrial tooling with appropriate shanks.

Advantages and disadvantages

The tool is not too heavy (by the standards of mixer drills). The centre of mass is above the main handle, so the device is easy to control. There are additional handles. The front handle is fixed in any desired position thanks to the slots. The side handle is screwed in from the left or from above (the manufacturer forgot about left-handers, so it is impossible to install it on the right).

The speed presetting function is implemented using a plastic wheel on the start button. The reverse switch is located above the trigger. It is not very comfortable and flimsy enough that it can be accidentally broken. In the back of the case there are holes for quick access to the brushes (a set of spares is immediately included in the box with the tool). The network cable is not of the best quality, solidifies in the cold, and the length of the cord is only 2 metres, which is very ridiculous, as for a mixer.

A tool for those who are not used to overpaying for status

Formally, Sturm ID20165M, like other tools of this brand, is considered a household device. But in fact, this drill is widely used by private craftsmen and small teams who actively interfere with building and finishing mixtures, stir paints and varnishes or drill holes in wooden logs and beams.
