Powerful and compact
Tannoy TS2.8 is a very compact model of an active subwoofer with one long-throw 200 mm driver and a similar passive radiator. The built-in amplifier operates in class D in bridged mode and provides an impressive power of 180 W. A digital processor is responsible for signal processing. It is designed to work in an orchestra with other Tannoy acoustics (for example, the mid-level Eclipse and Mercury lines), but at the same time it also works well with acoustics from other companies. Fortunately, the set of inputs (a pair of stereo and LFE tulip) does not interfere with this.
Dual woofer
Instead of one speaker, a pair of 8-inch speakers with pressed fiber diffusers (one of them is passive) is hidden in the case. They are located on the side panels, have soft butyl rubber surrounds and are tuned in relation to each other in such a way as to distribute low frequencies throughout the room as evenly as possible. Two such emitters in terms of total effective area are equivalent to one 15-inch driver, but their use made it possible to make the body compact and not too demanding for placement in the room. For optimal vibration isolation from the floor, Tannoy TS2.8 is equipped with high cone-shaped supports. The sound parameters are adjusted using DSP, which allows you to adjust the volume level, as well as the frequency of the input filter.
Ideal subic for cinema
As mentioned at the beginning, Tannoy TS2.8 belongs to the initial line of acoustics from Tannoy and is not designed to please music lovers. It adds power and weight to the main set, but like many models in this class, it blurs a little and brings the lower frequencies to the fore. This is especially true in punchy and bass-heavy music like drum and bass or hip-hop. But light “live” music like jazz and rhythm and blues is much easier for him. If you are primarily going to watch movies or play on a console, then the Tannoy TS2.8 will be an excellent and balanced option, the bass is clear, fast and rich. In this regard, it has few competitors in this price range, and all of them, in addition to their advantages, also have their weaknesses.
