Specialized premium-class portable acoustics, designed primarily for use with Apple technology — the main type of connection in it is AirPlay wireless technology. However, a wired connection is also possible — via a classic 3.5 mm mini-jack input or via a network via an Ethernet port; configuration can be carried out through the latter, a USB port is also provided for updating the firmware. With the B&W A7, the designers decided to go with the strict forms, moving away from the opulence seen in the legendary Zeppelin Air acoustics. The body of the speaker is decorated with a velvet fabric and, arranged according to the principle of the golden ratio, an aluminium strip with the company logo. Here are all the controls for the device: on the left side is the power button, and on the right side are the volume keys. The buttons are physical, with a small stroke and a clear response. The selected input will be indicated by a tiny LED on the panel. The upper face of the column, made of aluminium, can serve as a stand for gadgets. The rear panel is also tastefully designed, where the phase inverter, USB and Ethernet ports, mini-Jack connectors (3.5 mm) and a power supply port are harmoniously located.

Whether wired or via Wi-Fi, one click will allow you to stream your favorite song to the A7. You can simplify the transmission "over the air" using the proprietary Control app (versions are available for OS X and Windows operating systems).

Sound

The audio system pleases with an extensive sound stage, like a full-length stationary acoustics. Proper distribution of sound between the right and left channels creates a feeling of a stereo effect, and thanks to the design features of the phase inverter, the melodic pattern becomes warm and velvety.

The column received a pair of high-frequency and mid-range speakers, which perfectly sound every melodic pattern in both rock ballads and electronic music (EDM compositions). Built-in tweeters with load tubes help to avoid vibration overtones at high volume. But, despite a decent subwoofer (50 W) and an audiophile level DAC, when playing at high volume, there is a slight crushing of the bass line. As a result, the predominance of high frequencies “whitens” the sound, making it a little loud, but this is noticeable only at volumes above 80%.

Unfortunately, you will have to pay an impressive amount for a stylish musical box, but the quality of the acoustics justifies the cost. In general, the Bowers & Wilkins A7 audio system can be recommended to fans of electronic and pop music, as well as to those who are interested in remote control of home devices.
