Every detail under control

In the summer of 2015, Corsair expanded its already sizable lineup of high-efficiency power supplies by updating the popular RM series. The new Corsair RMi uses high-quality Japanese capacitors and introduces the Corsair Link software, which lets you monitor voltages and currents on individual rails, check power consumption, adjust fan speed, and evaluate overall PSU efficiency. In principle, it’s similar to motherboard tuning and monitoring software, with the only difference being that you need to connect the power supply to the PC using an additional USB cable.

Optimal 80+ Gold

Thanks to a progressive hardware platform from CWT, the power supply delivers excellent efficiency at the 80+ Gold level (91% efficiency at 50% of the rated load) and can deliver 100% of its power on the +12V rail. Cooling is handled by a controlled 140 mm fan with a long-life hydrodynamic bearing. In testing it performed even better than expected: at its 650 W rating it easily handled overloads up to 730 W while keeping output voltage deviations to a minimum. We especially liked the +12 V rail: no sag regardless of power draw, and ripple levels 2–3 times lower than the spec.

Other advantages include the high load capacity of the +12V rail, a full set of protections, a modular design, and a hybrid cooling system that lets you switch the fan from normal mode to silent. Combined with a 10-year manufacturer warranty, this makes the Corsair RMx a reliable foundation for a powerful workstation or a gaming rig with a couple of graphics cards and serious overclocking.
