hello from the past

The Defender Doom Keeper membrane gaming keyboard sets you in a serious mood at first sight. Or frivolous, if you don’t like the so-called “game design”, when everything is flooded with red, lights blink from everywhere, and the bristling body looks like either the leader of the Decepticons, or the truck from Mad Maximum The epithet "aggressive" is perhaps the least that this model deserves. However, the appearance of gadgets for gamers is a debatable issue, so let's talk about how Doom Keeper shows itself in action.

The layout here is classic, the keys are exactly where the fingers are used to, the left Shift is elongated in the classic way, and the Enter is two-story. It's good, you don't need to get used to the layout. The keys themselves are not bad (especially considering the price), but after the Logitech G213 Prodigy and Razer Cynosa V2, they do not cause delight. Pressing some keys is uneven, with small jerks. Because of the volume for printing, it is also not very suitable, but this is not her path, let's move on.

10 additional keys

A bunch of multimedia and function keys are scattered on top of the case, which are painted in silver for contrast. Considering that there are already 10 such keys, it is a pity that Defender did not give the opportunity to change their functions or attach macros to them. Between them, at the top in the centre, there is a decorative insert with the inscription Doom Keeper, which glows when the backlight is turned on. Activate kitsch by 120%. The palm rest in Defender Doom Keeper GK-100DL is not provided, its role is played by a slightly elongated edging at the bottom. The case is protected from moisture.

Tri-colour backlight

The backlight is as simple as possible, division into zones and lighting effects are not supported, you can simply turn on static purple, red and blue light. From a $20 model, more is not required. There is no software bundled with the keyboard, so the backlight is controlled by the Fn + Shift key combination. But there is a set of 8 interchangeable cupcakes, which are painted grey for contrast. Add here support for the game mode (win lock, up to 19 phantom clicks) and you get a very good entry-level gaming keyboard that will cost just a couple of dollars more than the simplest typewriter.
