Stylish slim body

The Dell G3 is the entry-level model in Dell's gaming line-up, yet boasts impressive headroom and a discreet design more typical of business-class laptops.

The laptop is made entirely of plastic, like most representatives of the G series. The inside of the case is made of textured plastic, which looks great in photos, but in real life it gives the impression of a $500-700 office laptop. Thin (22.7 mm), but not too memorable.

Comfortable gaming keyboard

But the keyboard block is made on a solid five: the key travel is pliable, they are well-placed, and the WASD game block is slightly highlighted due to the backlight. Plus, it's waterproof and has soft white backlit keys. In general, there are no complaints about the laptop case, it is assembled with high quality and slightly flexes only in the lid area, which is typical for any plastic case.

The Dell G3 15 3579 has a 15.6-inch Full HD (1920x1080 pixels) IPS panel. The matrix is not particularly bright (200 cd / m2), it has an average colour gamut of 57% sRGB and a contrast ratio of 610:1. The indicators are quite average, you can’t exactly write down such a screen as a plus, but you can’t scold it either.

Powerful hardware at an affordable price

But the filling of the Dell G3 15 3579 is very decent and at some points bypasses well-known gaming solutions from other manufacturers in this price category. So, inside the laptop we will see a 6-core Intel Coffee Lake Core i5 processor (maximum frequency 4.1 GHz, 9 MB L3 cache), 8 GB DDR4 memory operating at an increased frequency of 2666 MHz, a pumped version of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card Ti with 4 GB of video memory and a bunch of 1000 GB HDD and 128 GB SSD drives. There will definitely be no problems with performance in games with this model.

However if it is properly loaded with demanding toys like Far Cry 5 or Project CARS 2, the cooling system starts to make a noticeable noise, and the case heats up to a decent 55 degrees. If you play without headphones or external acoustics, the speakers hidden deep into the case are rather hard to hear. At the same time, the body heats up to an unpleasant 55 – 57 degrees on the sides and back. This does not interfere with playing (especially since there is no throttling), but for a gaming laptop it would be possible to make a better cooling system.

Thunderbolt Support

The 3500 mAh laptop battery holds up to 5 hours in normal mode and up to 2 hours in games. If you need to take your laptop with you all day, you will also need to carry a charger with you. But this is one of the few gaming laptops in this price range that supports the Thunderbolt interface.
