Such graphics significantly outperform the integrated one in terms of performance, and besides, it has positive effect on the overall system performance (with certain tricks, you can even use graphics memory as supplement to the RAM if the graphics card is idle). On the other hand, discrete solutions are much more expensive than integrated solutions, they consume more power and require active cooling, which affects the weight and heat dissipation of the laptop.

Note that most modern processors initially have integrated graphics. Therefore, many laptops in this category actually use hybrid mode of operation: at light loads, the integrated graphics core works, and if high performance is needed, the device switches to dedicated graphics card.
