Universal Soldier

With the development of the blogosphere and technology, the boundaries of video filming have become very blurred. Today you can shoot a vlog about a parade in the city centre on a camera phone, and next week you can take an expensive DSLR to shoot a video in a Dubai water park. All this motivated FeiyuTech to release a versatile and inexpensive handheld steadicam G6 Plus, which will be friends with DSLRs, compact cameras, smartphones and action cameras.

Convenient metal body with splash protection

The FY-G6 Plus has an all-metal splash-proof body, but it is not heavy — the total weight with a maximum load is one and a half kilograms. Battery life is 12 hours. At the same time, the battery is removable. Of course, few people will be able to shoot so much without a break, but here we have a fairly easy option, which, moreover, can be held with two hands. The rubberized handle adds convenience, which prevents unwanted slipping of the steadicam in your hand.

OLED screen and smartphone control

An unusual addition to the Feiyu Tech G6 Plus is an OLED screen with information about battery charge, connection, connection with the application and active mode. Below the screen is a joystick for turning the gimbal heads and several buttons for controlling the camera and steadicam. This is not to say that the FY-G6 Plus is “stuffed” (in a good way) with various buttons, but the shooting control system in it is quite comfortable. Also, all settings and adjustments can be made from the FY Settings App, then the smartphone will turn into a steadicam control panel.

Friendly with smartphones and action cameras

Now for the versatility. In the case of cameras, Feiyu Tech claims a load capacity of 800 grams. In fact, it turned out to attach the camera a little heavier, but the stabilization turned out, sorry for the oxymoron, unstable. Special adapters are provided for mounting smartphones and action cameras. FeiyuTech recommends using smartphones with a screen size of 5 to 6", but given the boom in frameless models, we would safely look towards diagonals up to 6.5". The main thing is that the width of the smartphone, taking into account the holder, does not exceed 87 mm.

Designed not for professionals

The main disadvantage of the G6 Plus stems from its nature. Due to its low weight and sharpening for small cameras and smartphones, it has a smaller range of motion, so it forgives fewer mistakes. For example, getting high-quality stabilization when walking fast can be difficult. Well, limiting the tilt angle to 260 degrees may not be enough for a specific type of shooting. This makes Feiyu Tech's G6 Plus not the best piece of hardware for advanced filmmakers. Although, it is not designed for them.
