The younger brother of Lenovo Legion 5 laptops
Lenovo Legion laptops made a lot of noise back in the day, setting the trend for gaming machines with a sophisticated design in the style of premium ultrabooks. Having won the favor of the press and won a bunch of figurines for the best design, Lenovo specialists came to the disappointing conclusion that most casual gamers cannot afford a laptop of this level, choosing more affordable options. And then the new Lenovo LOQ line came onto the scene, which retained all the main features of the Legion series (note: design, keyboard and AI Engine+), but at the same time focused on the entry-level price segment.
The similarity is obvious
At a quick glance, Lenovo LOQ 15IRH8 can really be confused with Legion 5: the plastic case is designed in the same minimalist manner, a well-recognized air intake protrudes from the back, and the keyboard with concave keys and single-color backlighting suspiciously resembles LightStrike keys. The only differences are the shape of the hinges, the design of the side air intakes and the mesh pattern at the bottom of the body. Most of the ports were moved to the rear panel and this is not the best solution, since due to the recesses it is difficult to find them blindly. The RGB backlighting of the keyboard was cut down to the usual solid color. But they didn’t remove fast charging, so a dead laptop can be charged to 80% in an hour. The display here is approximately the same class as in the entry-level Legion 5 models: 15.6-inch IPS matrix with Full HD resolution, 144 Hz refresh rate and NVIDIA G-Sync support. Except that the color rendition here is not the most impressive - only 45% NTSC, but the brightness has been raised to 350 cd/m².
Lenovo AI Engine+ proprietary smart optimization system
In terms of hardware, this is a pure entry-level device aimed at gaming in 1080p resolution. The test modification has an eight-core Core i5 13420H processor, a 512 GB SSD drive, 16 GB of DDR5 RAM (note: the memory can be expanded independently) and a GeForce RTX 4050 video card with a slightly reduced power consumption limit of 95 W, which allows it to produce results approximately at the level of the RTX 3060 Ti. But unlike the 3060 Ti, it supports the third generation of DLSS artificial upscaling technology, which can significantly increase average FPS without compromising image quality. In addition to design and hardware, Lenovo places special emphasis on the use of the Lenovo AI Engine+ auxiliary chip. This is a whole software package with AI algorithms to optimize the frequency of the CPU, GPU and cooling system operation.
