"Basic" for professionals and "advanced" for amateurs

Metabo HO 26-82 has a power of 620 W — an average figure by the standards of electric planers. But, despite this, this planer perfectly holds the load. For example, it does not “slow down” if you plan an oak by setting the depth control to the maximum (2.6 mm). Therefore, it is well suited for rough carpentry work, where productivity is important, and for carpentry tasks that require accuracy. The planer has thick milled soles made of cast aluminium (on a simple "household" tool, the back sole is usually stamped). A spring-loaded “heel” is built into the rear platform, and the front platform has a V-shaped undercut for chamfering.

Ergonomics and accessories

In terms of ergonomics and configuration, this planer is considered one of the best in its price category. It lies comfortably in the hands, and you can’t call it heavy (2.7 kg). The cable length (4 m) is sufficient for workshop work without an extension cord. An angle adapter (a unique feature that is not found in any other planer manufacturer except Metabo) allows you to direct the flow of chips in the right direction (although, of course, it is best to connect a vacuum cleaner for clean work).

Metabo always has very high quality accessories. This planer, for example, is equipped with a rigid and “powerful” parallel stop (for many other manufacturers, the stops are flimsy and bend under load). The kit includes a capacious dust collector and a device for setting knives in the form of a calibration plate. To complete happiness, only the case is missing (it is included in the Metabo HO 26-82 602682700 package).

Good but not perfect

The Metabo HO 26-82 is a good planer for the experienced hobbyist or beginner professional. He does his job well: planing boards and beams, fitting door panels and window frames, chamfering and removing coatings from wood. The only thing that he "does not like" is the selection of a quarter. Formally, he knows how to choose quarters up to 9 mm deep. But in fact, doing this is very inconvenient due to the fact that the body rests on the workpiece. Therefore, joiners will still have to keep a good milling cutter on hand to select folds.
