Model overview based on user reviews
The Michelin Alpin 5 is highly praised for its quiet and smooth performance, even at high speeds. Users appreciate its excellent handling on highways and its ability to navigate through slush and snow confidently. The tire is described as soft and comfortable in various temperatures, maintaining good traction on both dry and wet surfaces. It performs well on ice, though some users note it may slip when starting uphill. Despite its higher price, many find it worth the investment due to its superior comfort and quietness compared to studded tires. Overall, the Michelin Alpin 5 is considered an excellent choice for winter driving, especially for those who prioritize a quiet and smooth ride.

In short, the tire is excellent but not for ice.

Tires for the track. Ideal when summer is no longer possible and thorns are still early.
It’s quiet, it handles perfectly on the highway at a speed of 150 km/h, it doesn’t drag even at 170, it moves like a tank through slush, the main thing is that there is no ice under the snow.
When starting uphill on ice, it grinds, just don’t move. Even at a speed of 60, when you sharply press the gas, it slips into the axle box. This is my second winter, but next season I’ll take a studded one.

The fifth version of the "Alpine" from Michelin is recognizable by just one glance — the characteristic shape of the directional tyre tread is remembered from the first meeting.

characteristic pattern

In addition to the fact that the tread leaves a beautiful track on the snow, it also has very important qualities for a representative of the top winter tyre segment. So, directed drainage grooves form a “cesspool” design, and the corrugated structure of the tread surface improves traction on slippery surfaces and prevents the car from drifting.

Lamelization

The surface of the tread blocks is striated with numerous sipes, many of which have the so-called "claw effect". With their help, the tyre clings better to ice and snow, demonstrating confident passage on snow-covered tracks. The second type of lamellas used is self-locking. It increases the stiffness of the rubber when cornering and improves the tyre's traction on snow.

Equally good

Michelin Alpin 5 is good not only in words, but also in deeds, which is confirmed by the abundance of positive feedback from the happy owners of the model. There is only one minus for rubber, and even that one is “far-fetched” — as the tyre wears out, the noise level increases. However, it still remains quiet and soft regardless of the outside air temperature, which makes the tyre equally good both in the winter cold and on warm days of the cold season.
