Gaming laptops in the MSI Katana lineup are well-balanced devices capable of meeting the demands of mid- to high-level gamers. Compared to the Katana models released in 2021 – 2022, the manufacturer has made a number of improvements. The keyboard has been enhanced and now features a full 4-zone RGB backlight. The Cooler Boost cooling system is equipped with additional heat pipes, and the hardware configuration has been elevated by one level.
Instead of entry-level GeForce RTX graphics cards, an optimal RTX 4070 (Ada Lovelace microarchitecture) is installed here, balancing price and performance. This accelerator is equipped with 8 GB of GDDR6 video memory, with a power consumption limit set at 105 W, and supports the Mux Switch technology for instant switching between the integrated and discrete graphics cards.
When talking about the Ada Lovelace series cards, you can't overlook the refined ray tracing and the significantly improved artificial scaling system, DLSS 3.0. Ray tracing dramatically changes game lighting through significant computational resources, while DLSS uses artificial frame rendering to bring average FPS back to normal. An ideal combination. The video card is paired with a hybrid 10-core Intel Core i7 processor from the Alder Lake family.
Instead of the usual DDR4 RAM, the more productive DDR5 is used (frequency 4800 MHz, size 16 GB). An M.2 SSD with a capacity of 1024 GB, supporting the high-speed PCIe 4.0 4x bus, serves as the gaming library. Unlike the rest, the screens have remained at the same level as in the previous generation Kanata laptops: a 15.6-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 1080p and a refresh rate of 144 Hz.
That's about it. Network traffic is handled by a network controller with a gigabit LAN port and a wireless receiver (Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth 5.2). An external monitor can be connected to an HDMI output or one of the USB-C ports. The maximum battery life can reach up to 9 hours. The MSI Katana 15 B12VGK comes with the proprietary MSI Center software for configuring and optimizing laptop performance.
