I run a video blog and have already achieved some success on this slippery slope. Since I shoot some of my content on the street, a good and unpretentious camera for this task is very desirable. I used a simple and unpretentious digital camera from Canon, but when I saw a news item about the announcement of this camera, I realized that this was exactly what I needed. The ability to interview people on the street while filming everything around them is a real find and a highlight for any video blog. I already had the smartphone needed to work with this camera, a Samsung Galaxy S6, so I ordered the device as soon as it became available. I’ll say right away that the reality turned out to be somewhat harsher than expectations. The main feature of this camera is absolutely unique. It allows you to shoot real 360-degree panoramic video. This is achieved with two sensors with "fisheye" optics. Then the video is saved to a memory card, from which it can be further processed. Thanks to the included software Gear360 ActionDirector and the well-known professional editor Adobe Premiere, processing such video is not much more complicated than regular video. In addition, the camera can work with just one sensor, providing 180-degree coverage instead of 360. It can record video at resolutions from 3840x1920 to 1920x960 at 30 fps. And at a resolution of 2560x1280, you can treat yourself to a frame rate of 60 fps. There's no problem with overheating and condensation, which I feared. The quality of the video turned out to be lower than in promotional videos and this is clearly noticeable. The video turns out quite soapy and an acceptable low noise level is observed only in good sunlight or artificial light. As a result, any mid-range action camera like the SJ5000X Elite for $150 provides much clearer FullHD images. As soon as the first WOW effect wears off, the places where the images from two cameras are stitched together become noticeable. The battery is large, as much as 1350 mAh, but due to the fact that there are two sensors, the consumption is almost double. As a result, it is better not to count on more than 45 minutes of filming. True, the battery is made to be easily removable, so you can buy a spare one and change it as needed. |
