The Sony HDR-AS50 features high-quality Zeiss Tessar optics with f/2.8 aperture. Only unlike its counterparts, the angle of the lens field of view can be adjusted programmatically. In addition, it has a 3x magnification, which makes it possible to capture distant objects with greater detail.

4K timelapses

The latest fashion trends have bypassed the action camera — the maximum resolution of the videos recorded by it is 1920x1080 pixels. But you can still get 4K from it: the camera can create time-lapses in ultra-high resolution, formed from a number of 8-megapixel photos. Otherwise, there are practically no differences from their predecessors — video recording is carried out with a maximum bit rate of 50 Mbps paired with the advanced XAVC S codec.

Stabilization

According to the manufacturer, the Steady Shot image stabilization system is three times more effective than previous models. The main emphasis in it is on the suppression of high-frequency vibrations from motors, which makes it possible to obtain a clean picture when attaching an action camera to a radio-controlled helicopter or drone.

I am glad that Sony is listening to the comments of the owners of previous generations of their action cameras. Japanese engineers not only redesigned the body, but also added sound signals indicating the activation of a certain mode, and equipped the body of the camera with three LED indicators.
