Action cameras have long become a familiar device not only for travelers and extreme sports enthusiasts, but also for ordinary users who do not want to miss important events in their lives. Xiaomi developers offered their version of "recording on film" in a very creative style, providing a choice between white and light green-turquoise design.

Appearance and equipment

The device comes in a typical brown box with a design characteristic of the brand, and in the kit you will find: a charging cable, a battery, the camera itself and detailed instructions. The appearance of the device is slightly cartoonish, especially in the multi-colored version, so there is an immediate desire to "dress" the gadget in a protective case or box, which can be purchased separately.

But even without additional accessories, you don't have to worry about the safety of the camera, as appearances are deceptive and the fragile-looking case is very wear-resistant. And the controls are organized without frills: no screen, the camera on/off button (it also switches modes from photo to video), the Wi-Fi and recording buttons are not particularly picky in operation. The unsecured cover, behind which the micro SD (up to 128 GB), USB and micro HDMI slots are hidden, is slightly confusing, the probability of losing it is very high.

Attention, engine!

The quality of photos and videos taken with Xiaomi Yi is impressive and can compete with more expensive representatives of the segment: the 16-megapixel Sony sensor produces excellent Full HD video (1080 pixels 60 fps) and photos with a resolution of 4608x3456 pixels. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to shoot 4K video, and there is no night shooting mode and image stabilization either, but the device can boast of recording sound in Stereo (in two channels) and the ability to search for a camera using the application.

By the way, the application is the main control center of the device. Here you can find all the necessary information about the camera and set additional settings: set a timer for photos, turn on the TimeLapse mode, evaluate the charge level and connection quality. It is also used to set the frame rate.

It is worth noting that the early versions of the application had a lot of shortcomings and were aimed at the Chinese consumer, but regularly released updates have significantly improved the situation.

The Xiaomi Yi Sport Basic Edition Action Camera may not be a leader among its classmates, but if you consider the price-quality ratio, the model is quite worthy of attention.
