From the press release:
Canon is pushing the limits of macro flash photography with E-TTL auto metering and multi-flash control with the launch of the Macro Twin Lite MT-24 EX with twin emitters. The flash mount ring attaches directly to the front edge of the macro lens, and its control unit can tilt forward 57°. Even when working with a short EF 50mm f/2.5 COMPACT MACRO lens, the control unit does not touch the flash emitters, including when rotating the mount ring. The control unit has a large, easy-to-use LCD monitor that looks the same as on other Speedlites.
The E-TTL mode ensures correct exposure with the Twin Lite MT-24EX even in difficult lighting conditions. When used with the Speedlite 550EX, you can wirelessly control three auxiliary flash units with first or second curtain sync.
Seven custom functions allow you to customize your shooting styles, while an external power connection allows for longer run times and shorter burst intervals. Two new user functions have also been added to the MT-24EX model. C.Fn-8-1 sets the power ratio in 1/2-stop or 1-stop increments, and C.Fn-9-1 sets whether the focus lamp turns on or off when the shutter button is pressed halfway.
Controlling the power ratio of the lamps and their arrangement vertically and horizontally allows you to get a variety of lighting effects. A high guide number of 22/24 (dual/single head) in normal mode makes it possible to shoot with the MT-24EX as with a conventional flash.
