In the compact model Canon SELPHY CR1200, it's hard to suspect a full-fledged photo printer. Nevertheless, it is, even though it prints photos in a maximum size of 10x15 cm.

Portability

The printer takes up minimal free space when folded and only slightly increases in size due to the retractable photo paper tray when ready for use. The body of the model predominantly features glossy plastic - not the most practical material in terms of actively collecting scratches but simultaneously emphasizing the attractive appearance of the printer. The buttons for printing parameter settings and the 2.7-inch color display are located on the top panel of the device.

Printing Methods

The screen equipped on the model serves not only for visualizing the menu settings but also for viewing photos when printing from flash drives, which are connected via a USB port or built-in card reader. Additionally, Canon SELPHY CR1200 supports printing "wirelessly" - the Wi-Fi module onboard allows sending photos directly from a smartphone to the print queue. However, when using the wireless method, users, for some reason, do not have access to photo editing functions before printing, whereas, with external storage, images can be cropped and basic filters can be applied (skin enhancement, red-eye elimination, etc.).

Thermal Sublimation

Color printing is carried out using the thermal sublimation method - the printer has a cartridge with a film, which contains enough ink for a clearly defined number of prints (36 pcs. when using cartridge KP108). The ink is applied to the photo paper in three sequential processes, which take less than one minute. A protective coating is applied over the finished photo, the degree of roughness of which is selected in the settings menu.

Prerogative

With an additional battery accessory, the printer can be used autonomously, printing photos "on the go." The charge of the additional battery is enough to print about 50 color prints. The printer is only unsuitable for working with documents, but that is not its requirement. The model's prerogative is printing small format photos for a home photo album.
