The Golden Mean for Working with Graphics
The Dell UP2716D appears to be an excellent solution for those buyers who are looking for the golden mean when working with graphics. It provides a good image with decent color coverage without overpaying for some specialized features found in displays from EIZO and NEC.
Wide Color Gamut Coverage
At the heart of the Dell UP2716D is a 27-inch matrix with a Quad HD resolution (2560×1440 pixels) and a 10-bit color depth. As mentioned before, in terms of characteristics, it is almost on par with professional monitors that are one and a half to two times more expensive, offering users 100% color coverage for the familiar Adobe RGB and sRGB, as well as 98–100% for the new color spaces REC 709 and DCI-P3.
Separate praise is deserved for the backlight uniformity compensation system and the factory color calibration. While many monitors require meticulous manual adjustments to achieve 99–100% sRGB figures, the Dell UP2716D is almost perfectly calibrated at the factory.
Frameless Design
The Dell UP2716D has an interesting appearance. If described in one word, "unobtrusive" would be the most suitable epithet. And this is by no means a disadvantage. The fact is that the UP2716D has almost no external frames, and the internal ones (except for the bottom) are so thin that they are practically invisible. While such framelessness has become common for smartphones over the past year, it is still exotic in the field of professional monitors.
Convenient Position Adjustment
So the first thing that catches your eye when looking at the monitor is its massive plastic stand with a cutout in the center. Using it, you can adjust the monitor to the desired height (up to 125 mm), tilt it backward or forward up to 25 degrees, rotate it 45 degrees to the side, or switch to portrait mode. Especially convenient is that the screen can be detached from the stand with a simple movement using a special latch. After that, it can, for example, be mounted on the wall using a VESA mount.
Wide Connectivity Options
At the back of the case are ports hidden for connecting to the external world: a pair of HDMI, a hybrid Display Port/mini DisplayPort, and a USB 3.0 hub. In addition, there is a KVM switch that allows you to display images from two different computers and control them with one keyboard and mouse. The monitor lacks built-in acoustics, which could be considered a downside, but it has a 3.5 audio output that allows you to output sound directly from the monitor. Considering that most people already have a pair of favorite speakers on their desk, this solution is hard to call a disadvantage.
