The third generation of the speaker, which "pulses" with multi-coloured lights to the beat of the music being played, looks like a kind of futuristic lamp. JBL Pulse 3 offers its owner a good choice of radiance options, allowing you to switch between seven built-in presets and flexibly adjust the backlight to suit your mood in the proprietary JBL Connect app. In parallel with this, the speaker produces a dense and rich sound with a total power of 20 W with tangible bass. Additional assets of the model include dust and water protection of the housing according to the IPX7 standard, thanks to which the speaker is ready to swim in fresh water at a depth of up to 1 m for less than 30 minutes. In the barrel-shaped body of the device, there was also a place for a powerful 6000 mAh battery, with...which we can talk about 12 hours of continuous music playback. Another "feature" of the model is pairing with colleagues in the model shop through the Connect + function, which allows you to create a single speaker system by combining several speakers into a single whole.

light effects

In recent years, a pot-bellied barrel with the JBL logo has become the de facto standard of a portable speaker. So the updated Pulse 3 is a retelling of the same story. The only difference is that most of the speaker body is occupied by a tube with hundreds of RGB lamps that sparkle to the beat of the music. Moreover, the lighting and effects here are many times more interesting than those of Pulse 2 and perfectly emphasizes the atmosphere of a spontaneous party. However there are nuances in terms of practicality. Instead of a thin aluminium mesh that protects the lamps and the speaker itself, here we have only a plastic grille to protect the speaker and, in fact, that's it. What if someone drops it? Will the lamp last?

Self-contained and waterproof

But she is definitely not afraid of water — the speaker body complies with the IPX7 standard. This allows you to dip it under water to a depth of a metre and not be afraid of an unexpected downpour at a picnic at all. The main thing is not to forget to tightly cover the area with the connection interfaces — AUX and USB, which is used for recharging, with a rubber plug. Built-in 6000 mAh battery provides continuous playback of tracks for 12 hours. However it all depends solely on the volume and genre of music. Playing something light, without powerful bass, at 50% volume you can hope for 18 – 20 hours. But techno at full power is able to land the battery in less than 10 hours.

Party King

By the way, at maximum volume, Pulse 3 yells indecently loudly, and not at the expense of sound quality — it remains clear, juicy and saturated. In general, it is worth praising the company's engineers, as the difference in sound quality between the first and latest versions of their speakers is very large. Well, it's great that the JBL Connect function has not gone away, which allows you to link several JBL portable speakers into one system. Theoretically, if every party guest has such a speaker, then you don’t even have to call a DJ with equipment.
