Easy start

Seasonic CORE is a series of computer power supplies in the lower mid-range price segment. It comes in three wattages (500, 550, and 650 W) and three cable-management options: the non‑modular GC subseries, the fully modular GX, and the semi‑modular GM. In the latter case, the CPU and motherboard power leads are fixed, while the rest are detachable.

Gamers approve

The Seasonic CORE chassis proudly wears two instantly recognizable certifications: 80 PLUS Gold and TUF Gaming. The first guarantees at least 92% efficiency at 50% PSU load, and the second signifies membership in The Ultimate Force Gaming Alliance lineup of gaming PC components and accessories under ASUS’s patronage. All TUF devices share a unified black‑gray‑yellow color scheme and stand out for enhanced reliability, ensuring uninterrupted gaming sessions for hours on end.

Up to date

The CORE’s circuitry is, of course, Seasonic’s own design and manufacture, whereas many competitors in this price bracket rebrand turnkey designs from third‑party OEMs. Seasonic CORE is built around advanced DC‑DC conversion instead of less reliable group voltage regulation. Only high‑temperature (up to 105ºC) Japanese capacitors are used: Nichicon, Nippon Chemi‑Con, and Rubycon.

Everything connects

The 500 W version of Seasonic CORE delivers 492 W on the main +12 V rail, which is almost the entire rated output, and provides two 6+2‑pin PCIe connectors. That’s more than enough to power any PC, even with a flagship CPU and GPU. The notoriously tricky‑to‑route CPU power cable is a more than sufficient 65 cm long. The multi‑strand 20+4‑pin motherboard cable is wrapped in a nylon braid, while the rest of the cables are flat, flexible ribbon‑style.

Power that’s good for you

Seasonic CORE is cooled by a quiet 120 mm fan from Hong Hua (a long‑time fan partner of Seasonic), albeit on a standard sleeve bearing. Then again, fluid‑dynamic bearings are basically unheard of in this price range. Seasonic is so confident in CORE’s longevity, including its cooling system, that it backs it with a full seven‑year warranty. No other PSU maker in the under‑$100 segment can boast the same. On top of that, Seasonic CORE includes every single protection level: OCP and OPP for overload, OVP and UVP for over‑ and under‑voltage, SCP for short circuit, and OTP for overheating.
