Video reviews

Shure has been on the global market for almost 100 years and is rightfully one of the top leading manufacturers of audio equipment. It is for this reason that we could not ignore the inexpensive, but very balanced SRH240 headphone model.

Everything for comfort

From English Shure is translated as "confidence", and this is exactly what characterizes the SRH240. Everything about them is made for user comfort: light weight of 181 g, long 2-metre straight cable, protected by silicone from tangling and twisting, soft adjustable headband and leatherette ear cushions that provide a snug fit.

The outer side of the headphones is made of glossy plastic, which is not very beneficial from a practical point of view (scratches will be better visible), but it looks beautiful and impressive.

Note that the headphones do not fold. For a home or studio, this is hardly important, but for cases when you want to take them with you on the road, it may turn out to be a disadvantage.

Sound balance

There will be no complaints about the sound, neither among lovers of powerful basses, nor among their opponents. The bass here is just right: it does not clog other frequencies, does not mix everything together, does not endure the membranes with hellish “exhaust”. High crisp and juicy. The middle is satisfactory. The mix is quite legible and bright, even at the maximum volume, and here it is high — 107 dB.

But listening to MP3 files in these headphones will not be comfortable. Although the 38 ohm impedance still allows them to be used with portable audio sources, it is better to choose lossless music for listening.

The fact is that in monitor headphones, in which, as in our case, dynamic drivers with 40 mm neodymium magnets are installed, it makes no sense at all to listen to music in compressed formats. You won't get the slightest satisfaction. Only Hi-Fi sound will help to fully reveal the headphones.

Connection and operation

The SRH240 is connected to a 3.5 mm mini-Jack or 6.35 mm Jack via a threaded adapter. The ear pads can be ordered as replacements when they wear out. This option is supported by the manufacturer. In general, the model is reliable, but with a two-way cable going to the bowls, you need to be more careful, it is too thin.

In summary, the Shure SRH240 is probably the best you can get in a $60 closed wired Hi-Fi headphone.
