One of the most affordable offers in the shelf of 4K TVs of large caliber (65" diagonally) with a screen on "quantum dots", i.e. made using QLED technology. Such displays outperform traditional solutions in terms of colour quality and boast a high peak brightness threshold, all other things being equal comparison. The TCL 65C815 screen is in tune with the premium HDR10+ and Dolby Vision standards. Another highlight of the TV is the built-in Onkyo 2.1 soundbar with Dolby Atmos decoding. The work of the smart TV shell is provided under the Android TV 9 Pie system with built-in virtual assistants Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. External video sources are connected to the model via one of the trio of HDMI connectors, and external drives via USB ports. The network connection is created using...a cable or a Wi-Fi 4 module. To hang the TV on the wall, it is proposed to resort to the services of a VESA bracket in a large dimension of 400x200 mm.

QLED for reasonable money

The TCL brand TV is one of the most affordable 65-inch QLED models. The viewer can count on the main advantages of quantum dot technology, including a rich colour palette and decent colour reproduction, as well as a high contrast ratio (4000: 1). As a result, the black colour and its shades look natural and uniform, which means that watching movies with subdued lighting will give only pleasant emotions.

The TCL 65C815 also supports two popular HDR content standards at once — Dolby Vision and HDR10 +, which most competitors on the market do not have. The corresponding content looks more expressive than SDR video. But to reveal the potential of HDR 4K at 100% will not allow moderate peak brightness (up to 400 cd / m²).

Great sound and smooth picture

The TV performs well in dynamic scenes, including action movies, sports broadcasts, and various games. Responsible for this as a 120-Hz refresh rate of the matrix, and the technology of "smoothing" the MEMC video sequence. It makes objects in motion appear sharper, without tearing or blurring.

The TCL 65C815 features include decent sound out of the box. Onkyo's speaker system is used here: the soundbar located under the screen complements the 20 W subwoofer on the back of the case. The surround sound effect is designed to provide Dolby Atmos technology.

Android TV and 2 remotes

The TV is running Android TV. In addition to access to numerous multimedia applications, fast and stable operation of the platform, it is worth highlighting the Chromecast function for broadcasting content from mobile and support for Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice assistants. The package of the model includes 2 remote controls at once: a classic one with an abundance of buttons and a Bluetooth version with a microphone that allows you to give voice commands.

The disadvantages of the TV include poor viewing angles: if you deviate from the centre of the screen, the image noticeably loses contrast and quality in general. Otherwise, the TCL 65C815 looks like an interesting (and more affordable) alternative to Samsung's QLED models.
