How to Choose a Hard DriveUnderstanding how to choose the right HDD for gaming, video recording, server, and other tasks
Model overview based on user reviews
The WD Black 3.5" Gaming Hard Drive is generally praised for its speed, reliability, and long warranty period. Many users appreciate its fast performance, especially for gaming and handling large files, with some noting it is quieter and cooler compared to previous models. However, there are mixed reviews regarding its durability, with several users experiencing early failures or defects, such as bad sectors or mechanical issues, despite the 5-year warranty. The drive's vibration and noise are also mentioned, though some users have mitigated this with anti-vibration mounts. Overall, while the drive is considered a solid choice for performance, potential buyers are advised to be cautious of possible defects and ensure regular data backups.

I bought the wonderful WD Black 2 TB WD 2002FAEX. When I picked it up at the post office, the packaging was great, they even included a sturdy bag in the package for easy carrying, but afterward, things weren't so bright. The WD didn't last even a week. During the OS installation, it froze halfway through, and the only way to revive the computer was by cutting the power. After rebooting, the disk wasn't recognized anywhere. I sent it for servicing. After 20 days, the verdict was mechanical damage. According to their theory, I dropped the computer during the OS installation, damaging the hard drive. No warranty covered. That's the response to a 60-month warranty. I was tempted by cheap goods. I should have bought a more expensive one from Koba. I bought an external WD Live drive there. After 20 months of use, it died. They replaced it with a new one without any hassle. Maybe this model is just too complex. When I read about it, I was amazed, wondering if they really made such a thing. In reality, it turned out much worse, one week of work. Learn from my experience. Draw your own conclusions. And don't forget about data backup! ;)

This review will serve more as a warning about how important data backup is in the era of continuous growth of manufacturing defects. So, the hard drive died after 2 months. The temperatures were low—usually up to 32°C. It was not subjected to overloads. Heaven forbid!! It was constantly monitored. It did not make any strange noises. Overall, absolutely no warning signs. The drive's death was sudden and would have caught me off guard if I hadn't taken care of data backup. The drive froze during file deletion, "disconnected," and wouldn't start again.
Handles writing small files quite quickly. Dynamic caching, 256 MB cache, all that stuff. Even when working with a large number of bulky files, it works faster than the vast majority of hard drives.
Operating time — 2 months.

Got a defective product, bought on Ozon, it was launched 5 times out of the box, worked for 1 hour, Crystal Disk immediately showed bad sectors as soon as I started uploading files.
