A smartphone with the prefix "a" in the next generation of the hit low-cost Redmi series is a slightly simplified version of the usual "six". The model differs from the classic Xiaomi Redmi 6 in the “underhood hardware” consisting of a 4-core MediaTek Helio A22 chip, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of permanent memory, as well as an ordinary camera from the rear. The resolution of the main photomodule is 13 MP, while the front-facing model has 5 MP. Since the smartphone is not eligible for a fingerprint scanner, in return, it is proposed to use the user's face recognition function to unlock the device. Xiaomi Redmi 6a 16GB has a 5.45-inch screen with 18:9 aspect ratio and a display resolution of 1440x720 pixels. Out of the box, the device runs an optimized version of the MIUI 9 shell, rolled over th...e Android 8.1 operating system. Energy is shared with the smartphone by a non-removable 3000 mAh battery.

Why do smartphones start to slow down and what amount of RAM is now considered optimal?Let's explore the reasons for the slowdown and the optimal amount of RAM for smartphones

King of the low-cost segment

The Redmi line from Xiaomi is once again conquering the low-cost segment of smartphones. The formula for success has remained unchanged from previous models: add almost all the functions that an ordinary person needs, mix with performant hardware and season with a delicious price tag.

The body material is matte plastic, but if you don't know about it, you will probably mistake it for metal. The build quality is top notch, and nothing betrays the gadget's modest price. In general, the design of the novelty is practically no different from the previous Redmi 5a model.

Quad-core Snapdragon

But the filling of the smartphone is not to say that it has been pumped a lot, but it has fundamentally changed. First of all, this concerns the 4-core Snapdragon chip with a frequency of 1.4 GHz, instead of which the Redmi 6a has a 4-core processor from competitor Mediatek (operating frequency of 2 GHz). The amount of RAM remained at 2 GB. This, of course, is not the ultimate dream, but for everyday use of the system's resources it will be quite enough.

In everyday use, this bundle allows Redmi 6a to work at the level of a strong state employee: the smartphone handles with simple tasks without hesitation, and in resource-intensive applications it starts to slow down a little. Still, the hardware of the gadget does not have to toss and turn "heavy" games.

Improved IPS display

Compared to the previous version, Redmi has also improved the IPS screen, which has increased from 5 to 5.45". The screen is now HD + (resolution 1440x720 pixels), while the Redmi 5a had a simple HD. The screen is quite bright, the colour gamut is well balanced out of the box, but if you wish, everything can be reconfigured for yourself. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Much more interesting is the fact that, thanks to the frameless design, the increase in the diagonal of the screen had practically no effect on the size of the smartphone.

The camera that takes better selfies

By inheritance from the previous model, the smartphone got a similar set of cameras: 13 MP main and 5 MP front with "buns" in the form of HDR support and a system for recognizing the user's gender and age when taking selfies. In the latter case, there is also a Beautify mode that allows you to adjust the tone of the face, enlarge the eyes, even out skin tone or make yourself slimmer. On the one hand, such things have been in applications like Facetune for a long time, but getting all this out of the box is much more convenient.

Equipment

Now about functionality. Xiaomi Redmi 6a can work simultaneously with two SIM cards and use a memory card. No hybrid slots. There is no fingerprint sensor in Redmi 6a, as well as an infrared port. Still, this is a low-cost model, and something should justify its price. The usual 3000 mAh battery for the class gives a standard day of work in busy mode, a couple of days in quiet mode, or 5-6 hours of maximum activity (games, Wi-Fi on, brightness at 100%).

The icing on the cake is the cost of the device, which can compete with a few units.
