Number of seats

The number of people for which the swing (or other device, see "Type") is normally designed, in other words, the number of sitting or standing places (depending on the design). At the same time, multi-site structures can have various application features. For example, a traditional double rocking chair (see ibid.) requires a counterweight on both sides, it makes no sense to ride it alone; but on a carousel with seats, some seats may not be occupied (although in such cases you need to be careful not to get unbalanced). The minimum design is designed for 1 or 2 seats, in more advanced the number of seats can reach 3 or more.

Maximum weight

The maximum weight that the swing (or other attachment, see "Type") can safely support. This load cannot be exceeded: even if the structure does not break immediately, an accident can occur at any time (including later, under normal load). Also, according to this indicator, it is possible to determine the age category of the product to a certain extent: for example, 15 kg is the average weight of a child of 3.5 — 4 years.

Note that in multi-seat models (see "Number of seats"), the allowable load per seat is most often indicated. However, sometimes the maximum total load is also given, which may be less than the sum of the maximum loads for each individual seat. This point should be clarified separately.

Functions

Back. The presence of a backrest on a swing seat (or other design, see "Type"). The backrest not only provides additional comfort, but also reduces the chance of falling backwards, making riding safer.

Backrest adjustment. The presence of various settings in the design of the back (see above). This function is typical mainly for swings (see "Type"), designed for the smallest — the seats in such models resemble highchairs in design.

Seat belts. The presence in the design of the swing of special belts that fix the child on the seat. This feature is also relevant for the smallest "users", and therefore it is found exclusively in models of the younger age group, mostly at home.

Limiter between the legs. The stopper between the legs prevents the seated child from moving forward. It is an almost indispensable element of equipment for rocking chairs, but it is also found among other types — in particular, among swings for small children.

Folding protective bumper. The bumper is a rigid crossbar that, in the working position, covers the front of the seat, protecting the seated child from falling forward, and also playing the role of a handhold. And the folding design makes the bumper as convenient as possible: for the time of boarding and disembarking the chil...d, the protection can be raised or removed so that it does not interfere. Note that in some models the bumper and the limiter between the legs (see above) are made as a single part.

— Stops from turning over. Safety stops used in rocking chairs with skids (see "Type"). Most often, the role of such stops is played by the ends of the skids that are slightly bent down: they reduce the risk that the structure will tip over forward or backward if the child swings hard on it. Note that the stops do not provide one hundred percent protection, however, it is not easy to overturn a rocking chair with such equipment, even if you specifically set yourself such a goal.

Material

The main material used in the construction of the swing (or other product, see "Type")

Plastic. Inexpensive and at the same time very practical material, well suited for creating children's toys: plastic is light, does not oxidize from water, does not cool the body, the likelihood of sharp edges on such products is very small, and even if they are present, it is not easy to cut yourself with plastic. In addition, parts of any shape and colour can be easily created from this material. At the same time, plastic is not very resistant to temperature extremes and sunlight, which is why it is used mainly in home and similar hanging models (see "Purpose").

Metal. The main advantage of metal is its high strength and reliability. On the other hand, it weighs significantly more than plastic, costs more and can be uncomfortable: even in fairly warm weather, the metal surface feels cold. Therefore, this material is used mainly among outdoor models (see "Intended use"), for which the mentioned strength is critical.

Tree. Wood is considered the most "natural" and "ecological" material; in addition, it has an aesthetic appearance and pleasant to the touch. At the same time, its strength is relatively low, moreover, it can be significantly reduced due to moisture and other factors. Therefore, all-wood structures are sometimes found among rocking ch...airs, but they are practically not used in swings (in such cases, “wood” usually means a metal base with wood inserts).

— Textile. Textiles are used mainly in rocking chairs with runners (see "Type"), which are made in the form of various animals — horses, deer, etc. The outer skin is made of fabric in such products: it turns out to be soft to the touch and pleasant for the child, to the same skin can be made "shaggy", imitating the fur of an animal. Occasionally there are also swings with a textile seat; such a seat may have a frame or filler to provide the desired shape. Anyway, note that the fabric is sensitive to dirt — it is much more difficult to remove them from such a material than from plastic or metal.
