Purpose

The purpose indicates the part of the body for which the heater is intended. This parameter is relevant only for heating pads (see "Type"), and some models can combine several purposes at once; see below for more on this.

For the waist. Heaters for this purpose have the form of a wide belt covering at least the lower back and sides of the body. Some models also allow the use of the neck.

For the back. Heaters covering the entire back. Most models for this purpose are also designed for the neck — thus, with the help of one heater, you can warm up almost the entire spine (except that it is better to use a heating belt for the lumbar). The heating pad is usually attached in the area of the shoulders and is held on the back even when the body is upright.

— For the shoulders. Heaters "only for the shoulders" nowadays are practically not produced — almost all such models are also designed for the neck. Note that devices for this purpose can also be useful for general heating: in order to warm a frozen person, it is often enough to place the shoulders in heat.

— For the neck. Another purpose that is rarely found in its pure form: most neck heaters are also designed for the shoulders, some for the back, and the possibility of using on the neck can be provided in some heating belts.

Power consumption

Rated power consumed by the heater during operation.

Technically, other things being equal, a more powerful device will heat up faster and heat more greatly, but its energy consumption will also be higher. However, in fact, this parameter is of secondary importance: manufacturers select power in such a way as to provide the heating pad with the necessary performance. So paying attention to power makes sense mainly when comparing and only in cases where the differences are significant — for example, if one model consumes 100 W, and another of similar size only 60 W.
