AXIS T8606 Media Converter Switch 24 V DC allows connection to the network using standard Ethernet or fiber optic cables that help lower the cost of installing the cameras over long distances. Perfect for city surveillance, airports and other long distance installations, AXIS T8606 is a DIN-mounted device that can convert an Ethernet signal to be used over optical fiber cable. Surveillance integrators in the field can also connect installation monitors and laptops (via the RJ45 connectors) to AXIS T8606 for camera maintenance and control. The media converter switch can be connected in a daisy chain network.

AXIS T8611 SFP Module LC.LX is a small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceiver that supplies network devices such as a switches or routers with a fiber optic network connection. It is industrial grade with a wide temperature range (between -40 C to 65C) and it includes loss of signal feature that enable network redundancy.

Complying with SFP Multisource Agreement (MSA) it is easy to install into compliant ports at any time without interrupting the online operation of the host equipment. Long wavelength (1310 nm) FP laser diodes enable data transmission up to 10 km on a single-mode 9/125 m optical fiber. Ethernet has a limited cable length between the switch and the camera of 100m (328 ft.). When needed to cover a longer distance a switch is normally used as a repeater or optical fiber may be used.

To overcome this distance limit network installers can simply connect an AXIS T8129 PoE Extender in-line with the Cat-5e or Cat-6 cable and forward the rest to the camera. Dependent on midspan and camera type the connection in total can be between 200-400 meters (656-1312 ft.).
