Trek Domane SLR 9 Disc Road Bike Gen 4 2025 Fast, comfortable and hugely versatile, Trek’s Domane SLR 9 Disc Road Bike Gen 4 can tackle everything from long endurance rides to short races, with a bit of light gravel and winter training thrown in for good measure. The key to its versatility is the Gen 4 frame. Made from 800 Series OCLV Carbon it is light and stiff where necessary with improved Kammtail tubing for better aerodynamics, yet Trek’s IsoSpeed concept provides cossetting comfort on rough roads and lanes. When coupled with the Bontrager Pro IsoCore handlebar, it greatly reduces fatigue and discomfort caused by poor surfaces, making the bike quicker for longer. The bike’s geometry also reflects its performance-comfort aims, with figures that are ideal for long endurance style rides without blunting its speed on shorter loops. Clearance for tyres up to 38mm offers the opportunity to fit some wide rubber and venture off the tarmac onto traffic-free trails whilst the integrated mudguard mounts make it a viable year-round option. The frame also includes Trek’s internal down tube storage that is hidden beneath the bottle cage, and with space for a few tools and an inner tube, it keeps the weight low down and out of jersey pockets. Dura-Ace 9200 is Shimano’s range-topping groupset, with superlative shifting and braking performance. The 11-34-tooth, 12-speed cassette allows for a wide range of ratios without there being uncomfortable gaps between the gears and the 50/34 chainset means that there is a 1:1 option for really steep or long climbs. Shifting is fully electronic, with just a light touch of the levers needed to call up another gear, front or rear, and with no cables to stretch or deteriorate every shift is instant and accurate. The hydraulic disc brakes have some crossover technology with the mountain bike line, so the Servo Wave design gives more power and modulation whilst also putting a bigger gap between the rotor and pads for less dragging. Bluetooth connectivity allows the system to communicate with GPS computers and smartphones for gear displays, battery information and other useful metrics, and Shimano’s E-Tube app provides the possibility to choose between various shifting modes and customise some operations. The tubeless-ready Bontrager Aeolus RSL 37 OCLV Carbon wheels are lightweight for climbing and shallow enough to be untroubled in blustery conditions but still have an aerodynamically advantageous profile for lower drag at high speed.
