Everyday stressors, including poor diet, lack of sleep, psychological stress, and sun and environmental exposure, can trigger cells to become senescent. Normally, senescent cells are cleared within days to weeks by our immune cells. As we age, however, senescent cells accumulate—accumulating exponentially faster after 60—and impede immune function, creating a snowball effect that leads to even more senescent cells.
