In the 1960s, King Seiko timepieces contributed to Seiko Watch Corporation’s developments in world-leading technical precision. ‘King Seiko’ originated when multiple Seiko teams of experts created different watches to encourage innovation, one of the Japanese watch brand’s constant aims. This King Seiko takes its roots of inspiration from the Japanese chrysanthemum flower – or ‘Kiku’, popular during the Edo period. A popular glassware of the period known as ‘Edo Kiriko’ featured a ‘Kiku tsunagi mon’ pattern, which has been replicated on the dial of this timepiece. This model has a much slimmer case than previous versions, at only 10.7mm depth for increased comfort. It has a sapphire glass edge, for standout aesthetics which gives a sharper reflection. The hour and minute hands have a diamond cut specification which sparkle alongside the three-dimensional indices. It has a 6L35 calibre movement, with accuracy of +15 to -10 seconds/day. Long live the new King Seiko: modernised elite watchmaking, yet its stately, dignified and majestically classic looks remain.
