Die Rolle des mittleren Bombers erwies sich während des Zweiten Weltkriegs als eine der wichtigsten und n... moreach einer etwas schwierigen Einführung entwickelte sich die nordamerikanische B-25 Mitchell zu einem äußerst erfolgreichen Flugzeug. Die B-25 wurde in allen Einsatzgebieten eingesetzt und war das vielseitigste Flugzeug seines Typs das eine Vielzahl von taktischen Aufgaben in den unterschiedlichsten Einsatzgebieten erfüllte. Die wohl berühmteste Aktion an der die nordamerikanische B-25 Mitchell beteiligt war fand am 18. April 1942 kurz nach 8 Uhr morgens statt als sechzehn der Bomber von dem relativ kurzen Deck der USS Hornet abhoben und Kurs auf Japan nahmen. Dieser kühne und heldenhafte Angriff auf das Herz des japanischen Imperiums das die US-Pazifikflotte in Pearl Harbor angegriffen hatte verdeutlichte die Entschlossenheit des amerikanischen Volkes und die Entschlossenheit seiner Streitkräfte den Sieg anzustreben.. Die frühen B-25B-Flugzeuge die beim Doolittle Raid eingesetzt wurden zeigten gute Leistungen wurden aber bereits modernisiert. Das spätere Modell C/D (es wurden verschiedene Buchstaben zur Bezeichnung des Herstellers verwendet) erwies sich als die endgültige Version dieses äußerst effektiven mittleren Bombers und war die erste wirklich in Serie produzierte Version des Flugzeugs. Als äußerst robustes und vielseitiges Flugzeug wurde die Mitchell als U-Boot-Patrouillenflugzeug vor der Küste Floridas und als Jagdbomber in den Wüsten Nordafrikas eingesetzt und erwies sich in beiden Fällen als erfolgreich. Einige der späteren Versionen der B-25 wurden zu den am stärksten bewaffneten Flugzeugen des Krieges mit nicht weniger als 18 Maschinengewehren und einer Reihe anderer Angriffswaffen. Mit ihrem massiven Bug der 8 schwere Geschütze beherbergte waren diese Flugzeuge tödliche Kanonenboote die in der Lage waren alles zu zerstören was sich in ihrer Schusslinie befand. 165 Teile Länge gebaut 233 mm / Breite 286 mm / Höhe 692 mm.
