Founder of the famous Arteluce lighting company, he was one of the first designers to take an interest in the new functions of lighting. Created in 1958, Gino Sarfatti's Pendant 2097 is an iconic piece of 20th-century design. This luminaire revisits traditional Chandeliers to offer an unprecedented ultramodern form. Pendant 2097 strikes a perfect balance between the emphasis of traditional Baroque chandeliers and the minimalist style of the 50s, with a touch of industrial aesthetics. The metal structure features multiple spokes of varying lengths, placed around a large central cylinder. At the end of the spokes, Bakelite sockets support the myriad glass bulbs (50 Frosted glass LED bulbs included). Sarfatti made a daring aesthetic choice for the time: unlike traditional chandeliers, he decided to leave the electrical wires and Bakelite sockets visible. The sleek metal structure is criss-crossed with cables, creating an aesthetic tangle in the space. The cables seem to develop and grow like vines, giving the luminaire an organic dimension. A prolific designer, Sarfatti has created over 600 Lamp models. Throughout his career, he sought to use new materials, create new shapes and design new lighting technologies. Still in production today, this iconic Sarfatti fixture has lost none of its modernity.
