Petal grinding discs
Petal circles
— a specific kind of grinding wheels (see the relevant paragraph), which has a special structure of the working surface — it consists of radially arranged segments (petals) of emery cloth. These segments are partially superimposed on each other, forming a kind of fan, hence the other name for such nozzles — fan circles. One of the main advantages of such nozzles over traditional hard wheels is the minimum of noise and vibrations. In addition, the edges of the abrasive petals, which are used during operation, are constantly worn down to a new, sharp grain when worn; due to this, the circle can be used until it is completely erased, and all this time the petals will remain effective.
Note that there are two main varieties of such circles — flat and conical; in the second variety, the petals are slightly bent with the outer edges upwards (when the circle is positioned with the working surface down). Flat models are designed mainly for processing flat surfaces; conical in this application are somewhat less effective, but they work fine on curved surfaces, including concave ones.
