In general, it makes sense to buy separate components in two cases: if you want to assemble the system at your discretion, without relying on ready-made kits, or if the device is purchased to replace an old one that has failed. Specifically, the control unit is the “brain” of the system, which is directly responsible for its functioning: it receives signals from sensors and controls the valves. Such a unit can be built into a valve. However, this option is placed in separate selection option; in this case, it is a separate device that is meant.

Installing a system with a separate unit is somewhat more complicated than with a built-in one — after all, it is necessary to ensure the connection of the control unit not only to the sensors but also to the valve. On the other hand, the control unit can be placed in a convenient place. In addition, it is precisely this arrangement that is optimal if you need to block several points in the water supply system at once: one common unit for several valves, usually, is cheaper than several valves with built-in control units.
