Oil-phthalic enamels

Oil-phthalic

— a kind of base used exclusively in enamels (see "Type"). In fact, this is one of the names of the alkyd base; for its practical properties, see the relevant paragraph. And the term "oil-phthalic" itself is used by some manufacturers and sellers for advertising purposes. It is believed that such a name looks more "natural" and causes more confidence among buyers who are skeptical about "chemistry" than specific terms. However, all alkyd paints are produced using similar technologies, using both natural oils and synthetic substances. And the "naturalness" of the paint does not depend on what is written on the package — "oil-phthalic", "pentaphthalic" or "glyphthalic". So this option does not provide any practical advantages, it is primarily designed to calm the nerves of those who are wary of "unnatural chemistry".
