Left-handed taps and dies
Left hand thread
— dies and taps (see "Type"), designed for cutting left-hand threads. The standard modern thread (which twists clockwise and unscrews in the opposite direction) in the direction of the helical surface is right-handed: if you look at such a thread from the side, for example, on a bolt, then its turns will go from left to right. In left-handed threads, respectively, the opposite is true — the turns are directed from right to top to the left, unscrewing is carried out clockwise, and twisting is counterclockwise. Such a thread is used much less frequently, but in some cases it is preferable to the right one, and sometimes it is the only suitable option. Accordingly, left-handed dies and taps are also found on the market, although much less often than right-handed ones.
