Such a filter provides a rather rough cleaning, but even it can be useful — for example, if water is supplied through a valve to a dishwasher or other device that is sensitive to water quality. Note that the filter will periodically have to be removed and cleaned, and if the water is not clean, this will have to be done quite often.
