— the opening or closing of the water inlet is controlled by a locking mechanism that moves when the valve rotates. One of the advantages of such design over ball valves is that even the simplest of such devices allow you to adjust the intensity of the water flow. On the other hand, they are more cumbersome, and the valve usually requires a few turns to open or close completely. So for situations where you do not need to regulate the water flow (the “open” or “closed” positions are enough), ball valves are better suited.
